- Neoprene has outstanding thermal properties, and is extremely flexible and strong.
- Neoprene insole creates a double layer of insulation.
- Comfort - warm with an adjustable side gusset for ease of fitting.
- Price - from £150 to £250 these are some of the most expensive wellies on the market.
- They don't last forever - admittedly an obvious point, but some reviews have advised that they last around 2 years. For £150+ you may expect more.

Used by manufacturers of wetsuits, neoprene is supremely successful in country footwear because of the unique way it warms quickly, because the lining works by trapping little pockets of air which, once warm, prevent the loss of body heat. As such, the Chasseurnord Boots are perfect for use in temperatures ranging from +15°C to -5°C, and thus are recommended for fishing, hunting and general outdoor winter use.
With a pedigree lasting over 85 years Le Chameau certainly has the experience to produce a welly of above average quality. Aimed at professionals and those passionate about country pursuits, all of Le Chameau boots are handcrafted from natural rubber. It takes 9 months of intense training to gain the unique skills that have been passed down through generations to become a master boot maker and ensure the craftsmanship that Le Chameau are known for. Le Chameau uses only the latest soles, mid soles and innovative linings in the manufacture of their top of the range boots.
The Vierzonord is designed to keep you warm even in the chilliest of winters perfect for temperatures ranging from +15C to -5C. With a 3mm neoprene lining the Vierzonord provides first rate insulation and superior comfort when walking.
Neoprene’s ability to warm up quickly and prevent the loss of body heat by trapping little pockets of air makes it the ideal choice for all season waterproof boots. With the addition of a neoprene insole in this boot it creates a double layer of insulation making the boot both warm and comfortable.
The body of the boot is natural rubber crafted from the Hevea tree which is native to tropical Amazonia. The qualities of the Hevea tree provide a supple, and elastic boot. The adjustable gusset coupled with the snap fastening buckle that is exclusive to Chameau make it easy to get on and off and ensure a good fit.
With 4 and a half stars out of 5 on Amazon based on 10 customer reviews they are a popular choice. Comfort seems to be on everyone’s mind with one reviewer saying that they were the most comfortable footwear he has ever worn. Although most of the reviews seem to be confident in the boots abilities to last there are a few that have complained that their boots have developed faults within a couple of years. Although these waterproof boots come with a 2 year warranty as standard there seems to be some argument regarding how easy it is to replace a faulty pair within this time.
So what are you likely to pay for a handcrafted pair of wellies with a 2 year warranty as standard? Well the Vierzonord range from £159.90 – £229.30. Quite a lot for a welly boot but Le Chameau does have a very long pedigree and with HRH Kate sporting a pair, a royal seal of approval as well.
If you want top of the range waterproof boots that offer both warmth and comfort then Le Chameau Vierzonord may be the boots for you. With reviewers only needing to replace their boots after 10 or 15 years they seem like a sound investment. Steeped in tradition yet always at the forefront of boot technology, Le Chameau boots certainly seem to live up to their reputation.

A little surprised!!!, 24 Nov 2012 by johnboyjazz
I am looking to replace my pair of Le Chameau, which I have had for over 8 years because that is how old my dog is and she chewed the top of my boots when she was a pup! Infact I have had these long before I got my present dog and wore them down the stables for a couple of years prior. Without doubt they are the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn, the natural rubber feels like a second skin. If you spent a lot of time in wellington boots these are the best, I recently went to a bird of prey centre and All the staff were wearing them….say no more.
